چکیده

The color Coulomb potential is derived from the expectation value of the non-local part of the Coulomb-gauge Hamiltonian, in the presence of static external charges. This is a 1/R potential in electrodynamics, but the R-dependence may be different in non-abelian gauge theories. In this talk I will show that the confining behavior of the color Coulomb potential depends on the unbroken realization of a global gauge symmetry, which remains after imposing Coulomb gauge. I will also make some connections to the vortex confinement mechanism, and this theme will be further developed in Dan Zwanziger’s talk. The results outlined here are reported in much greater detail in ref. [1]; I will also touch on the studies in refs. [2] and [3]. Let |Ψqq〉 = q(0)q(R)|Ψ0〉 denote a physical state in Coulomb gauge containing heavy quarkantiquark static charges, where Ψ0 is the YangMills vacuum wavefunctional. Then

We review the confinement scenario in Coulomb gauge. We show that when thin center vortex configurations are gauge transformed to Coulomb gauge, they lie on the common boundary of the fundamental modular region and the Gribov region. This unifies elements of the Gribov confinement scenario in Coulomb gauge and the center-vortex confinement scenario. We report on recent numerical studies which s...

We investigate numerically and in the one loop approximation a two dimensional SU(3) gauge model of Wilson lines. We propose this model to be a dimensionally reduced model of high temperature QCD 3. In contrast to perturbative dimensional reduction it has an explicit global Z 3 symmetry in the action, and a confinement-deconfinement transition. The phase diagram of the model also shows a new th...

We report a numerical study of SU(2) lattice gauge theory in the minimal Coulomb gauge at β = 2.2 and 9 different volumes. After extrapolation to infinite volume, our fit agrees with a lattice discretization of Gribov’s formula for the transverse equal-time would-be physical gluon propagator, that vanishes like |k| at k = 0, whereas the free equal-time propagator (2|k|) diverges. Our fit lends ...

We numerically investigate the phase diagram of pure U (1) gauge theory with gauge fixing at strong gauge coupling. The FM-FMD phase transition, which proved useful in defining Abelian lattice chiral gauge theory, persists also at strong gauge coupling. However, there the transition seems no longer to be continuous. At large gauge couplings we find evidences for confinement.

The deconfinement transition in SU(2) gauge theory and the magnetization transition in the Ising model belong to the same universality class. The critical behaviour of the Ising model can be characterized either as spontaneous breaking of the Z 2 symmetry of spin states or as percolation of appropriately defined spin clusters. We show that deconfinement in SU(2) gauge theory can be specified as...
